Our Gemstones

At Zamha Gems, we specialize in Tanzania’s magnificent semi-precious gemstones, each one carefully extracted from our licensed mining sites in Arusha. Our collection represents the extraordinary geological diversity of East Africa, offering a spectrum of colors, properties, and characteristics that appeal to discerning buyers worldwide. Every stone in our inventory undergoes rigorous quality assessment by our experienced sorting team, ensuring that only specimens of exceptional beauty and value reach our customers.

What sets our gemstones apart is not just their natural beauty, but the complete transparency of their journey. From the moment a stone is discovered in our mines to its final export, we maintain detailed documentation of its path, allowing our customers—particularly those in the European market—to confidently verify the ethical sourcing of their purchases. This commitment to traceability has made Zamha Gems a trusted partner for jewelers and collectors who prioritize responsible supply chains.

Exploring Tanzania’s
Gemstone Diversity

Tanzanite

Although not sourced from our current mining sites, we occasionally offer tanzanite through partnerships with authorized miners in the Merelani Hills. Known for its vivid violet-blue color and pleochroism, which means it shows different colors from different angles, tanzanite remains Tanzania's most renowned gemstone export.

Garnet

Our sites yield several varieties of this versatile gemstone family, including rich red pyrope garnets and the more unusual color-changing garnets that shift from green in daylight to purple in incandescent light—a remarkable optical phenomenon that creates essentially two gems in one.

Zircon

Natural zircon is a brilliant, often overlooked gemstone distinct from cubic zirconia. Our Tanzanian zircons span honey browns to vivid blues, each with dazzling fire. They offer exceptional sparkle and beauty at a more accessible price point.

Moonstone

With its ethereal floating light effect (adularescence), the moonstone from our region displays a bluish sheen against a creamy white background—a combination that has made it a favorite for both traditional and contemporary jewelry designs.

Spinel

Often mistaken historically for ruby or sapphire, spinel has finally gained recognition as a magnificent gemstone in its own right. Our Tanzanian spinels come in vibrant reds and pinks that rival the beauty of ruby but often at more accessible price points.
